Root canal treatment (or endodontic treatment) is one of the most frequently performed procedures, and the tools and methods that we offer at Astra Dent Warsaw allow making it painlessly and quickly.

We recommend root canal treatment to patients whose pulp, that is, the tissue that fills the root and cavity of the tooth, is seriously and irreversibly infected. This is usually the result of untreated caries. Endodontic treatment allows you to save the tooth, despite the absence of pulp.

How is root canal treatment performed, and how long does it take at Astra Dent Warsaw?

The goal of Astra Dent dentists is to ensure that patients enjoy their healthy smile as long as possible. Root canal treatment is one of the procedures by which we manage to preserve the patient’s natural dentition. During the procedure, we clean the canals of the tooth, removing the infected dental pulp. Then we disinfect the empty canals with a special medication and fill them with the appropriate material. At the end, we fix the filling and restore the crown of the tooth.

Root canal treatment is a completely safe procedure. Before starting the treatment, we conduct a thorough examination and discuss it with the patient.

• or CT scan if the treatment involves more than one tooth.

Thanks to these studies, our specialists get an accurate picture of the infected tooth, the structure of the root and the course of the canals. This allows us to assess and then discuss with the patient the exact course of treatment, which stages will be performed and how long the entire procedure will take. In addition, we use a dental microscope during endodontic treatment. This is a great tool that gives us a very accurate picture of the canals during the procedure.

How to determine if a tooth needs to be treated endodontically?

The pulp is a soft, loose tissue that fills the cavity with the tooth. If the pulp is seriously infected, treatment must be carried out as soon as possible before the disease affects other teeth.

The following symptoms should serve as an indication:

• very sharp toothache that is difficult to localize
• increased sensitivity to temperature changes (hot and cold)
• increase of tissues around the tooth
• sometimes there is a change in color and the tooth may turn gray.

Sometimes a tooth that has been broken or cracked, for example, as a result of an accident, is subject to root canal treatment.
