What is therapeutic treatment and to whom do we recommend it?
The most important task of our dentists is to keep patients’ teeth healthy so that they can enjoy a natural and healthy smile for as long as possible. Such treatment is necessary for every person, because even the slightest inflammation or abnormalities in the development of teeth can have serious consequences for the health of the oral cavity. We know that for many people visiting the dentist’s office is a source of stress, so at Astra Dent we take special care of our patients’ comfort.
What about our youngest patients? Due to the great differences between the adult and children’s maxillofacial system, a separate branch – pedodontics – has emerged. This is not only about prevention and treatment, but also training in hygienic care of the oral cavity, adaptation of dental procedures and supervision of the correct development of the dentition-maxillofacial system. The first visits to the dentist are stressful for both children and their parents, which is why at Astra Dent we have an individual approach to our patients, putting their comfort during the visit in the first place.
What does a preventive visit and diagnostics look like in therapeutic dentistry?
During an examination, a preventive visit, we ask the patient what complaints they have, and then we conduct an examination. If we do not find any problems, we can move on to hygiene. However, if the diagnosis shows any problems, we proceed to developing a treatment plan.
Of course, not all problems can be detected using a classic examination. That is why we use modern diagnostic tools, such as a dental microscope, a diagnostic laser or an intraoral camera. They allow us to examine very precisely the smallest changes and damage to both the teeth and the interdental spaces and gums.
For more accurate diagnosis, we use computed tomography, pantomogram or X-ray. Such examinations allow not only to diagnose the problem, but also to plan a course of treatment or a procedure, for example, tooth extraction or root canal treatment. Our clinic is equipped with the latest equipment and instruments, thanks to which all examinations are carried out on site.
What procedures are carried out as part of therapeutic treatment?
The most important preventive procedure in general dentistry is hygiene: removing tartar, cleaning and strengthening enamel. We offer our patients the following set of hygiene procedures:
- Scaling — removal of tartar using a manual, ultrasonic, or laser scaler. During this procedure, tartar accumulated on the crown of the tooth and under the gums is removed.
- Plaque removal – plaque removal using an abrasive mixture. This procedure eliminates discoloration even in interdental spaces.
- Polishing is the third stage of complex hygiene. With the help of special brushes, the dentist polishes the teeth with a special paste that slows down the process of redeposition of tartar.
- Fluoridation – covering the teeth with a special fluorine-containing varnish that strengthens the enamel and protects the teeth from caries.
Other general dental procedures are performed when caries or other problems occur. The most common procedures are:
- elimination of caries and fillings,
- restoration of teeth,
- fixation of a temporary seal,
- root canal treatment.
When should you go to the dentist?
We recommend our patients to undergo a preventive visit at least once every six months. An oral examination is the first step to keeping your smile healthy and beautiful for as long as possible. However, we recommend urgent registration if:
- you feel a sharp toothache,
- inflammation of the gums (redness, bleeding),
- unpleasant smell,
- increased sensitivity of teeth to cold and heat,
- jaw pain,
- you notice white, black or yellow shades in your teeth,
- you feel pain when eating solid food.
