What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an artificial root, which after engrafting into the bone takes on the functions of a lost tooth. According to statistics, the average rate of periosteal tissue loss is less than 0.2 mm per year. This means that even 5-10 years after installation, the implant does not loosen and does not need to be replaced.

The main elements of a modern implant:

• A root screw is a threaded part made of titanium or monolithic zirconium and covered with a micro-rough SLA/SLActive surface for rapid fusion with the bone.

What are the types of implantation?

• Express implantation (one-stage). The artificial tooth root is inserted immediately with a gum former or with a temporary crown. The technique requires high initial stability and accurate diagnosis. Often used in the frontal area for quick aesthetic rehabilitation.
• All-on-4 / All-on-6 implantation. Prosthetics system for complete edentia: implants are placed in the jaw at an angle and immediately loaded with a full-jaw fixed structure. The method allows you to do without bone grafting and provides chewing function on the day of surgery.
• With immediate loading. A technology that involves fixing the temporary crown immediately after implant placement. Suitable in cases with sufficient bone volume, correct bite and good primary stability.
• With bone grafting or sinus lift. If the vertical or horizontal bone volume is insufficient, augmentation is performed: bone material (autogenous, allogeneic or synthetic) is added to create a full-fledged base. For planning, cone-beam CT (CBCT) is used with a dose of ionizing radiation lower than that of a classic spiral tomograph, but with the same detail of bone structures.

• Consultation, CT, diagnostics. The doctor collects anamnesis, makes a CBCT scan with a resolution of 0.08 mm and a 3D scan of the dentition. Software merging of images shows bone density, the course of nerves and sinuses.
• Selection of implants (Straumann, Neodent, Megagen, etc.). The system is selected according to the type of bone and aesthetic requirements. The serial number of each component is stored in the patient’s card.
• Planning, preparation. The surgeon calculates the angle and depth of drilling: a surgical template is printed on a 3D printer and limits the bur deviation to 0.2 mm.
• Implant placement under anesthesia. The operation lasts 15-30 minutes. The fixation force of the artificial root is checked with a special key to assess whether it is sufficiently stable in the bone.
• Installation of a temporary or permanent crown. If it is sufficiently stable, the crown is fixed immediately. A permanent zirconium structure is manufactured after 8-12 weeks.
• Support until complete healing. The patient receives a hygiene protocol, attends follow-up examinations on the 7th, 30th day and after 3 months. The doctor monitors the bone level and adjusts the load.
